Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy indicated on Saturday the possibility of a trilateral meeting involving Ukraine, the United States, and Russia during the upcoming G20 summit in the United States. However, he noted that neither Washington nor Moscow has confirmed participation, and alternative venues are also being considered.
The Group of 20 major economies, which includes the US and Russia but excludes Ukraine, is scheduled to convene in Miami in December. Zelenskiy stated that while the summit in the US presents a potential location for such discussions, confirmation from both Russia and the United States is still pending. He also mentioned that the meeting could alternatively take place in a European or a Middle Eastern country, specifically citing the United Arab Emirates or Saudi Arabia as possibilities mentioned by the US.
Zelenskiy revealed that Ukrainian negotiators had engaged in discussions with US officials on Friday, though he did not provide further details. He also emphasized the necessity for Europe to establish its own diplomatic channel for engaging with Russia, given the ongoing conflict and strained relations resulting from Moscow's war in Ukraine.
Separately, President Zelenskiy addressed concerns regarding the use of Starlink satellite services by the Ukrainian military. He stated that the military's interceptor drones were currently inoperable for countering Russian drone attacks due to imposed speed restrictions. Ukraine was reportedly informed that these limitations stemmed from technical issues, despite tests conducted within the European Union not revealing similar problems.
US President Donald Trump recently stated that neither he nor Elon Musk, whose company SpaceX developed the Starshield system utilized by Ukraine's military, bore responsibility for any disruption in Starlink services affecting Ukraine's military operations against Russia. The reduction in Starlink services had reportedly interrupted communications and decreased internet speeds.
