Chelsea goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez has been stretchered off the field after sustaining a head injury during the match against Everton. The Argentine international was replaced by Mike Penders, marking the young Belgian's Premier League debut for the Blues, who were holding a 1-0 lead at the time.
The incident occurred following a collision with Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite. Martinez received extensive treatment from Chelsea's medical staff for several minutes after the sickening clash of heads.
Reports indicate that Martinez was taken directly to the hospital. TNT Sports commentators confirmed he was en route to a Liverpool hospital, adding to the concern surrounding his condition.
Martinez, who joined Chelsea from Aston Villa in the summer, recently featured in his second World Cup final earlier this year, where Argentina was defeated 1-0 by Spain.
