Belgium's foreign minister has reported that Israeli settlers attacked Palestinians, Western diplomats, and officials in the occupied West Bank. The incident occurred during an olive harvest.
Minister Maxime Prevot stated that the Belgian consul general, diplomats from France and Poland, and a French mayor were among those subjected to the attack. A vehicle belonging to the Belgian consulate was also reportedly damaged during the confrontation.
"Harvesting olives, reporting the news or carrying out diplomatic duties should never put anyone at risk of attack," Prevot said in a statement.
Prevot indicated that Belgium intends to continue advocating for sanctions against individuals responsible for the violence and their supporters.
As of the report's filing, the Israeli military, the European Commission, and the foreign ministries of France and Poland had not immediately responded to requests for comment.
