The Yemeni Ministry of Transport has condemned the Houthi militia's destruction of a vital bridge on the Hayjah Al-Abd road, connecting the Lahj and Taiz governorates, warning that the act constitutes an assault on civilian infrastructure and jeopardizes the flow of essential goods and supplies to Taiz.
The ministry stated in a release that the demolition of the bridge has severed the crucial route, disrupting commercial and service transportation. This action exacerbates the humanitarian and economic hardships faced by citizens amid the nation's challenging living conditions.
It emphasized that targeting roads, bridges, and crossings represents an attack on public interests and the foundations of daily life. Such actions obstruct the movement of citizens, goods, and aid, undermining efforts to alleviate public suffering and ensure access to basic necessities.
The Ministry of Transport urged the international community, the United Nations, and human rights organizations to adopt clear stances against the targeting of civilian infrastructure and to act decisively to halt these violations, ensuring public facilities remain neutral in the conflict.
Furthermore, it called upon relevant authorities and international organizations to undertake an urgent assessment of the damage caused by the bridge's destruction. The ministry requested the provision of necessary solutions for road rehabilitation and the resumption of transportation services to guarantee the uninterrupted supply of goods, aid, and services to Taiz and affected areas.
The ministry underscored that protecting road networks and vital installations is a national and humanitarian responsibility. It asserted that citizens' right to safe passage and access to food, medicine, and essential services must be preserved, free from attacks that harm their lives and interests.
