Small Plane Crashes in San Jose; Three Survive with Minor Injuries

A small aircraft carrying two adults and one child crashed onto a San Jose street on Saturday afternoon, resulting in minor injuries for all occupants and a brief traffic disruption.

The incident occurred shortly after 3:00 PM near the intersection of Capitol Expressway and Excalibur Drive. San Jose Fire Department confirmed that the passengers, consisting of two adults and a child, were transported to a local hospital as a precautionary measure for injuries described as not life-threatening.

The aircraft, identified as a 1968 Cessna 177A Cardinal, managed to avoid striking any vehicles on the ground. Federal Aviation Administration records indicate the plane is registered to Flying Twenty Inc., a non-profit flight club associated with San Jose State University, which operates out of Reid-Hillview Airport.

The crash resulted in a minor fuel spill, which emergency crews quickly contained. Authorities reported that the accident caused a temporary traffic jam, necessitating the brief closure of the Alum Rock Avenue exit from Highway 680. The wreckage was removed approximately three hours after the crash.

The cause of the accident is currently under investigation by relevant authorities.
