YR2 trillion, 750 billion were plundered from the Ministry of Defense by the Houthis since 2019

The Houthi militia spent YR2 trillion, 750 billion under the expenditure of the Ministry of Defense, during the years 2019-2020-2021, at a time when 1.25 million state employees have been living without salaries for 5 years. Informed sources revealed.

The total expenditures of the Ministry of Defense in 2019 amounted to YR575 billion and 28 million, and rose to 725 billion in 2020. Sources in Sana'a said.

According to the sources, the spending plan for the current year 2021 amounted to YR1.5 trillion and 450 billion, which confirms that the Marib battles have drained the Houthis, as the number of their dead reached 30 thousand, according to the statements of one of the militia leaders.

The Houthi militia have been reluctant to pay the salaries of employees in their areas of control for years, and spent resources on their leaders under compensation, grants, and social benefits.

Public finance experts estimate that during the past six years, the Houthi militia have accumulated enormous wealth of more than $14 billion, which they invest locally and abroad, at a time when poverty surrounds 80% of Yemenis, according to United Nations reports.
