Houthi gunmen killed a teacher on Sunday in Amran governorate, north of the Yemeni capital, Sanaa, when he demanded for his salary.

The Yemeni Network for Rights and Freedoms said that Houthi gunmen on a motorcycle shot Sadiq Ayedh, a teacher at Mu'ammar School in Hamdan district, Amran Governorate.

Houthi gunmen killed the teacher, before fleeing to an unknown destination. The Yemeni Network added.

According to educational sources, teachers in the areas under the control of the Iran-backed Houthis have been threatened teachers to teach for free, and have refrained from paying their salaries for the past five years.

The Houthis impose YR1000 monthly fees on each student, in addition to the billions of riyals they earn in revenues and taxes. However, they refuse to pay the salaries of teachers and employees in their areas of control.
