Local residents in districts of Bani Matar, Khawlan, Hamdan, Sanhan and Bani Harith, in the capital, Sana'a, reported that the leaders of the Houthis are working to buy large areas of land in multiple areas in the former districts, exceeding tens of hectares.
Local residents confirmed that Mohammed Ali Al-Houthi, the arms dealer Faris Mann'a, the governor of Sanaa Al-Hadi and other leaders, all from Saada, had purchased large areas of land, with an area ranging from 1,000 to 5,000 bricks (Lebnah), and a brick equal to 44.44 square meters.
The leaders of the Houthi militia tempted the residents to buy land at high prices that exceed its real price dozens of times, through agents and with the facilities of the legitimate secretaries who appointed them. Local residents said.
According to residents’ testimonies, the price of one brick (Lebnah) jumped from YR20,000 to one million.
Houthi leaders' purchase of land at high prices prompted people to sell and abandon their villages and areas, move to other areas to live far away from the oppression of the Houthis. They added.
The Iran-backed Houthi’s move to purchase the lands of the indigenous citizens in the Sana’a cordon, with the aim of replacing the families of the sectarian militia members with the place of the indigenous people who lost their sons and men in fighting with the Houthis.
