Iran-backed Houthis corruption resurfaces: Documents

Documents revealed major financial corruption of a Houthi leader, who embezzled and looted more than a hundred million funds under fake names and organizations.

The documents obtained by Yemen Details reveal the conflict and corruption of the Houthi families, and their exploitation of the aid provided to humanitarian organizations, especially with regard to caring for the the disabled.

The documents show that Muhanad Al-Mutawakil, who heads the Yemen Future Association for the Care of the Disabled, looted an amount of one hundred and three million riyals provided by Yemen Mobile, one of the telecommunications companies, to purchase transportation for the association, according to the attached note, in which Al-Mutawakil speaks that he wants to buy nine advanced and modern means of transportation, "a type of Hilux immersive Toyota Double", to serve what he called "the wounded of the aggression".

Sources indicated that Al-Mutawakel, not only looted the amount of 103 million riyals through the Association, but also obtained a similar amount from the Fund for the Disabled Association, which he demanded in the other document to disburse the tax amounts on the cars purchased in a fraud and clear corruption of that group.

The Iran-backed Houthis expanded the means of looting of merchants, international organizations and commercial companies in Yemen, and established new local organizations and associations with the aim of obtaining priority in any grants and projects funded by the offices of international organizations in Sanaa, as well as revenue-generating government institutions.
