An Israeli airstrike on Tuesday resulted in the deaths of a father, his wife, and their four children in Gaza City, with their home catching fire, according to health officials.
The strike, which occurred in the Sabra neighborhood, claimed the lives of Firas Al-Masri, his wife Salsabeel, their three daughters, and one son, medics reported.
The Israeli military acknowledged the strike, stating that its intended target was a Hamas militant and that the consequences of the operation were under review.
In separate operations since Friday, the Israeli military reported neutralizing three militants from Hamas and Islamic Jihad. Two of these individuals were identified as participants in the October 7, 2023 attack on Israel and were involved in holding Israeli hostages taken during that assault.
These fatalities contribute to a Palestinian death toll exceeding 1,150, predominantly civilians, since an October ceasefire between Israel and Hamas took effect, according to Gaza health officials. Hamas typically does not disclose its casualties. The truce has not halted near-daily Israeli strikes, which Israel asserts are directed at militants. Four Israeli soldiers have been killed by militants in Gaza during the same period.
The conflict commenced with a Hamas-led incursion into southern Israel, resulting in the deaths of 1,200 individuals and the abduction of approximately 250 hostages, according to Israeli figures. Israel's subsequent military campaign has led to the deaths of over 73,000 Palestinians, as reported by Gaza health officials. Approximately 2 million Gazans are now displaced, residing in a confined coastal area, often in makeshift shelters or damaged structures under Hamas governance.
