Liverpool has officially confirmed midfielder Curtis Jones's departure, with Inter Milan agreeing to a deal potentially worth up to €35 million (£30.7 million). The player has been given the green light to travel to Italy to finalize the transfer.
Inter Milan has been pursuing the 25-year-old academy graduate throughout the summer window, aiming to bolster their midfield with his technical skill and dynamism. After initial negotiations where Liverpool held firm on their valuation, Inter's latest structured offer has finally met the Reds' requirements.
According to reports, the agreement includes a fixed fee of €30 million (£26.7 million) with an additional €5 million (£4 million) in performance-related bonuses. Liverpool has also secured a crucial 10% sell-on clause for any future transfer of the midfielder.
Jones has reportedly agreed to a five-year contract with Inter Milan, running until 2031, with a net salary of €3.5 million per season. He has been granted official permission to travel to Milan to undergo his medical examinations.
With Jones leaving his boyhood club after 228 senior appearances, Liverpool is not planning a significant external signing to replace him. Instead, the club is expected to promote highly-rated 19-year-old academy talent Trey Nyoni into the first-team squad to fill the void left by Jones.
Nyoni impressed the coaching staff during pre-season with his mature ball control and tactical awareness, signaling Liverpool's continued commitment to developing young talent while capitalizing on a substantial transfer fee for a homegrown player.
