Omega is shaking things up with its latest Speedmaster collection, dropping seven new colorways in a more manageable 38mm size, perfect for those who find larger watch cases a bit much.
This new lineup takes Omega's existing 38mm Speedmaster collection and gives it a significant glow-up. The biggest win? They've ditched the oval subdials for the classic, round ones you see on the iconic Moonwatch. Plus, these subdials are now chunkier and feature the essential Dot-Over-Ninety detail, just like their legendary big brother.
Powering these new pieces are two automatic movements. Six of the models come with the Caliber 3330, which includes a date function. One standout is a "cappuccino" edition priced at $11,700, boasting an ivory dial, brown PVD-coated subdials, a stainless steel case, and an 18K Sedna gold bezel.
However, the real star of the show might be the seventh model: a black dial version with no date, powered by the Caliber 3332. Coming in at $6,500, Omega is positioning this watch as being much closer to the classic Moonwatch look, especially when compared to the previous black 38mm model with its date window and less refined bezel.
This new 38mm black Speedmaster, with its clean matte black dial, Moonwatch-style five-link bracelet, and improved black aluminum bezel, definitely evokes the spirit of the Speedmaster Reduced from the late 1980s, which sported a slightly larger 38.5mm case. While there are subtle differences, like the crown position and bezel details, this new 38mm model feels like a modern "mini Moonwatch."
Ultimately, this 38mm Speedmaster is more than just a smaller watch; it shares more design DNA with the original Moonwatch than the Reduced models, despite the nostalgic nod.
