The U.S. Secret Service has confirmed awareness of a video aired by Iranian state television that allegedly discussed a plot to assassinate Barron Trump, the youngest son of President Donald Trump.
Secret Service spokesperson Nate Herring stated in an email on Tuesday, "The U.S. Secret Service is aware of the video and investigates anything that can be perceived as a threat toward our protectees. Out of concern for operational security, we do not discuss matters of protective intelligence."
The three-minute video, broadcast by Iranian state television, purportedly detailed a potential assassination plot against Barron Trump, who is 20 years old. The broadcast claimed he was under surveillance and alleged that a bounty of $10 million had been offered for his death.
This incident occurs amid ongoing hostile rhetoric between the United States and Iran, stemming from a conflict initiated by the U.S. and Israel approximately six months ago. Earlier this month, Reuters reported that U.S. officials had received multiple warnings from Israel over the past year indicating Iran's intention to assassinate President Trump. These warnings reportedly predated a covert operation involving Air Force One in Turkey.
President Trump himself has publicly stated that he is "number one on the kill list for Iran."
