Newcastle United midfielder Nico Gonzalez is reportedly facing a potential ban from playing in the upcoming match against Hull City due to FA regulations concerning head injuries.
Gonzalez sustained a blow to the head during Newcastle's recent loss to Leeds United, leading to his substitution due to concerns about a concussion. The club is now preparing for their Saturday fixture against Hull, but there's a significant chance Gonzalez won't be cleared to play if the required recovery period hasn't been met since the incident.
Manager Matthias Jaissle highlighted the club's responsibility in handling the situation. "Yeah, with Nico, you know, as the manager, and also we as a club, have the responsibility," Jaissle stated. "He had that knock-out feeling, as you all saw. We were also responsible enough to take him off the pitch, even though he looked fine then, but there are also some rules, especially for that occasion."
Jaissle emphasized the seriousness of player welfare, regardless of match importance. "Independent of how important he is, and how important it is to win the match. We’re all human beings as well, and we take that seriously, so therefore we made the decision to take him off the pitch," he added.
The Spanish midfielder, who joined Newcastle from Manchester City in the summer, has been a valuable addition. His absence would be a considerable blow to Jaissle's squad, especially with Bruno Guimaraes and Sandro Tonali already unavailable.
