Ex-Police Couple and Daughter Found Dead in Suspected Murder-Suicide

Two retired San Francisco police officers and their adult daughter were discovered deceased in their Marin County home Sunday evening in what authorities are investigating as a murder-suicide.

The Marin County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 call reporting a shooting at a residence on Strawberry Circle in the waterfront community of Strawberry. Upon arrival, deputies found three individuals, identified as Kevin Mannix, 68; Ann Elizabeth Corriea Mannix, 65; and Katherine Elizabeth Mannix, 24, all residents of the unincorporated Mill Valley area, deceased within the home.

Preliminary indications from sheriff’s officials suggest that Kevin Mannix is believed to have fatally shot his wife and daughter before taking his own life. The investigation is ongoing, and autopsies are scheduled to be conducted on Tuesday.

San Francisco Police Chief Derrick Lew confirmed that both Kevin and Ann Mannix were former officers with the department. Chief Lew expressed deep sorrow over the family's deaths and stated that the San Francisco Police Department is in mourning. He noted ongoing communication with Marin County Sheriff Jamie Scardina regarding the investigation.

Ann Mannix had a distinguished career spanning over three decades at the San Francisco Police Department, rising to the rank of deputy chief and notably being the first woman to lead the department's tactical company and the first woman to join the SWAT team. Kevin Mannix served for 27 years, retiring from the Taraval Station in June 2018. He was also reportedly a former investigator for the San Francisco district attorney’s office.
