A beloved husky named Ruso was found hanged in a Lynwood alley, prompting an investigation and outcry from the dog's owner and the community. The incident occurred after the dog allegedly bit a woman who, along with a man, is suspected of luring Ruso out of his yard and later killing him.
Filiberto Reyes, Ruso's owner, discovered the harrowing circumstances after a neighbor shared a disturbing video online. The 9-year-old husky, described as playful and gentle, was found deceased with an orange leash tied to a metal security door, according to social media footage. Reyes stated the dog was found behind a doughnut shop and laundromat on Long Beach Boulevard, but authorities had already removed the body by the time he arrived.
Reyes believes the suspects agitated Ruso, leading to the dog's reaction in self-defense before being killed. He has reportedly identified one of the suspected individuals to authorities, though no arrests have been made. The owner and his family have expressed feeling unsafe in their Compton home and are contemplating relocation.
Lynwood City Councilman Luis Cuellar confirmed that the city is investigating the incident after becoming aware of it through social media. In a statement, the city expressed deep sadness and concern over the reported animal cruelty, extending sympathy to the owner and those affected. The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department has reportedly received hundreds of emails regarding the husky's death.
Authorities are urging anyone who may have witnessed the incident or possesses relevant video, photographs, or other information to contact Detective Christina Smith at (213) 678-5402. Reyes is seeking justice for Ruso and hopes for a swift conclusion to the investigation.
