Manchester United are reportedly scrambling to find a new striker for the January transfer window, with Benjamin Šeško now sidelined until at least the new year due to a recurring shin problem.

Šeško's absence, which has kept him out since September, highlights a glaring lack of depth up front and intensifies the pressure on United to make a signing next month. According to TEAMtalk, the club is actively monitoring four potential targets: Nicolò Tresoldi, Jean-Philippe Mateta, Igor Matanovic, and Dion Beljo.

Among the exciting prospects is Club Brugge's Nicolò Tresoldi, who is valued at approximately £42 million and has also caught the eye of Chelsea and Manchester City. His impressive scoring form in Belgium has put several Premier League clubs on high alert, with scouts from Chelsea and United having watched the 22-year-old.

Jean-Philippe Mateta offers a different profile. The Crystal Palace forward, while older, boasts proven Premier League experience and could be available for around £25 million due to his contract situation. While Tresoldi might represent a more exciting, long-term investment, Mateta could be the more pragmatic January solution.

United's immediate need is for a forward who can seamlessly integrate into the Premier League, provide reliable cover, and contribute without a lengthy adaptation period. Matanovic and Beljo are considered intriguing alternatives but come with higher adaptation risks.

The failure to secure another striker in the summer transfer window now appears to be a costly misstep. With Šeško unavailable and the team facing consistency issues, the January window is crucial for bringing in a forward capable of making an immediate impact, potentially making Mateta the most practical target despite Tresoldi's greater allure.
