Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty expressed grave concern on Saturday that any further escalation in the conflict involving Iran would be significantly more destructive and have profound repercussions.
Speaking at the IISS Manama Dialogue security summit in Bahrain, Abdelatty stated, "The second round will be more dangerous, more destructive, and it will lead to nowhere. We have to draw lessons from the past."
His remarks come amid ongoing diplomatic efforts to de-escalate tensions. An interim agreement brokered in June proved insufficient in securing a lasting ceasefire or restoring normal maritime traffic through the vital Strait of Hormuz.
Recent proposals include Iran reopening the strait within seven days in exchange for the lifting of U.S. blockades on its ports. Qatari mediators have resumed discussions in Tehran, though differences persist regarding the priority of nuclear negotiations versus sanctions relief.
