Yemeni Government forces launched an offensive on Tuesday against Houthis west of Taiz province, capturing areas under the control of the Iran-backed Houthis, military sources said.

The government forces seized large sites east of Taiz, including the villages of Al-Qaeda, Al-Homra, and Al-Madafen, as well as Al-Hobe Mount and Al-Jamal Hill, a military source told Republican Yemen on condition of anonymity because he is not authorized to brief the media.

According to the source, the heavy fighting resulted in causalities from both sides, including Houthi ranks.

The Houthi rebels responded to the government advances western Taiz by shelling Al Shamasi and Al-Zahra residential neighborhood east of Taiz, residents said.

This comes amid heavy fighting between Houthi rebels and government forces west of Marib, home to two million IDPs, that has been ragging for the past three weeks.
