Well-informed sources in the Yemeni capital, Sanaa, said that the relatives of Saleh Al-Sammad, the former head of the Houthi political council, who was killed in 2018, are not convinced of the executions carried out by the Houthi group on Saturday, against civilians on charges of participating in his killing.
The Iran-backed Houthi militia on Saturday publicly executed nine people charged with involvement in the killing of the militia’s leader Saleh Al-Samad in 2018.
The Houthi-controlled SABA news agency said on Saturday that “the Public Prosecution implemented the legal retribution verdict against nine people” who allegedly guided the Arab coalition warplanes that killed Al-Samad in the western province of Hodeidah.
The group, including a 17 year old, were accused of putting SIM cards in the pockets of Al-Samad’s guards, helping the coalition to locate the Houthi leader.
Al-Samad, then president of the Houthi Supreme Political Council, was visiting the western province of Hodeidah in April 2018 to incite residents to join the war when the coalition hit his convoy, killing him along with six other people, and inflicting a heavy blow to the Houthi movement.
The sources pointed out that his brother, Fadhl Al-Samad, vowed to continue chasing his father's killer until he is retried, especially after he confirmed the innocence of those who were executed.
Al-Samad believes that what happened today was a poor charade, aimed at burying his father's case, and releasing the real killer who roamed between the governorates and inside Sanaa absolutely freely. sources said.
The leader of the Yemen's people Congress Party, Yasser Al-Awadhi, had previously revealed that Saleh Al-Samad had told him before his death that his life was threatened by a well-known wing of the Houthis, and he mentioned at the time two Houthi leaders, one of whom is closely linked to foreign intelligence.
The sources confirm that Mohammed Ali Al-Houthi is the person who has always been waiting for Al-Samad to assassinate him.
