Israeli drone strike on car near Lebanon’s Tyre kills four: Report

An Israeli drone strike on a car near the southern Lebanese port city of Tyre killed two Hezbollah members who were in the vehicle and two people who were in a nearby orchard, an official with the group and the state news agency said.

One of those killed was Ali Hudruj, a local Hezbollah commander, said the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity in line with regulations, without giving further details.

In recent weeks, Israel has been accused of intensifying strikes on senior Iranian and allied figures in Syria and Lebanon - backers of the Palestinian militant group Hamas - raising fears the Gaza conflict could expand.

On January 2 in neighbouring Lebanon, where Hezbollah holds sway, Hamas deputy Saleh al-Arouri was killed in a strike widely blamed on Israel.

Days later, Israel killed top Hezbollah commander Wissam Tawil in a strike on his car in south Lebanon.

Recent months have also seen regular cross-border exchanges of fire between Israel and Hezbollah in southern Lebanon.
