Florian Wirtz has reportedly struggled since his massive £116 million move to Liverpool last summer, failing to live up to expectations with just five goals and four assists in his debut Premier League campaign. His current season has seen a dip in creativity for Liverpool, contributing to several draws and a significant drop in their title race odds.
Despite the initial hype, the German international has looked like a shadow of the player who shone in the Bundesliga. His slow start has been particularly noticeable this season as Liverpool have lacked attacking flair, dropping points in crucial early fixtures and falling significantly behind title contenders Arsenal and Manchester City according to bookmakers.
Wirtz faced a choice between Liverpool and Bayern Munich last summer, ultimately opting for Anfield. While things haven't clicked yet, German reporter Christian Falk suggests Bayern remains interested. He noted that if Wirtz were to consider a return to the Bundesliga, Bayern would be his first point of contact, though any deal hinges on Liverpool's willingness to cut their losses on the 23-year-old.
Given Liverpool's hefty investment and Wirtz's young age, a quick sale seems unlikely unless results don't improve. Should Liverpool decide to offload him, Bayern might not meet the full transfer fee but could propose a player-plus-cash deal. Two Bayern stars who could be involved are Harry Kane and Alphonso Davies.
Despite his prolific goalscoring, Harry Kane, who turns 33 in July, is entering the latter stages of his career and his contract expires at the end of the season. Offering him as part of a deal could free up wages for Wirtz and potentially reduce the cash component for Liverpool by up to £40 million, securing them a world-class striker.
Alphonso Davies, another Bayern star, could also be an option. While still a first-team regular, Davies has faced injury issues and may not be rated as highly by Bayern as he once was. If he can overcome his fitness concerns, the 25-year-old could offer Liverpool an upgrade at left-back, potentially replacing Milos Kerkez, who has also struggled to impress since his arrival.
