Manchester United is reportedly targeting a proven goal-scorer to address their attacking woes, spurred by a more serious-than-anticipated injury to Benjamin Sesko, potentially leading them into the January transfer market.
The club has already made inquiries about several high-profile players, with their list of potential targets extending beyond initial reports. While links to Leeds United striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin were confirmed, this pursuit appears unlikely to materialize as the England international is reportedly in advanced contract talks with his current club.
A stronger interest, however, lies with Al Ahli striker Ivan Toney, who has been a consistent name linked with a Premier League return. Although Toney is reportedly content in the Saudi Pro League, where he has maintained his England status, sources suggest he would consider a move back to England if the right opportunity arises. Manchester United views him as one of several options currently under internal assessment.
The primary objective for United, according to a source, is securing a reliable goal-scorer to cover for Sesko's absence. The club is leaning towards a loan or a low-cost short-term deal rather than a significant investment in a young striker. While Danny Welbeck was a potential summer option, that interest never progressed.
Toney is now considered a serious contender, though his position as the top choice remains to be seen. It's also noted that Newcastle, Tottenham, and Everton have shown interest in the 30-year-old. Previously identified targets like Jean-Philippe Mateta and Ollie Watkins could also still be on United's radar, as some within the club have advocated for their signing in the past.
Beyond striking reinforcements, Manchester United might also prioritize a left-back in January, although the immediate need for a forward is considered the more pressing issue.
