Tottenham defender Jan Paul van Hecke delivered a standout performance against Crystal Palace, netting a goal and showcasing incredible passing stats as Roberto De Zerbi's team secured a 2-0 Premier League victory.
The Dutch centre-back was pivotal in Tottenham's control at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, logging an impressive 160 touches and completing a remarkable 143 passes. Van Hecke's defensive solidity was matched by his exceptional composure on the ball, completing 143 out of 151 attempted passes for a 94.7% accuracy. Significantly, 119 of his successful passes were in the opposition half, underscoring Tottenham's aggressive attacking approach and territorial dominance.
His offensive contribution extended beyond just passing; Van Hecke registered three key passes, proving his ability to initiate attacks from deep. Defensively, he was equally dominant, winning all four of his aerial duels, making four ball recoveries, and two clearances, without being dribbled past once. He capped his stellar performance by heading home Tottenham's second goal in the 73rd minute.
Archie Gray had opened the scoring in the 25th minute from a Mohammed Kudus corner. Crystal Palace were reduced to ten men earlier in the match after Jean-Philippe Mateta received a red card for a challenge on Micky van de Ven.
Van Hecke's flawless display highlights the seamless integration of Roberto De Zerbi's key summer signings. Alongside Van Hecke's record-breaking stats, Sandro Tonali also impressed in midfield, dictating play and anchoring De Zerbi's possession-based system with composure. Tonali's recent string of excellent performances validates Tottenham's significant summer investment in the midfield, as the team builds momentum in the league.
