Manchester United's highly-rated 16-year-old prospect, JJ Gabriel, is reportedly on the verge of sealing a January transfer to Real Madrid, according to top journalist David Ornstein.
Gabriel, who has emerged as one of the most exciting talents in United's academy despite not yet featuring for the senior team, has been the subject of significant transfer speculation. Reports suggest he has chosen to leave Old Trafford, with Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain previously linked to the English teenager.
Ornstein confirmed the impending move on X, stating, "JJ Gabriel expected to sign for Real Madrid from Manchester United in Jan. Interest from likes of PSG, Barcelona, Bayern Munich + #MUFC tried to retain but 16yo attacker chose #RMFC & set to join on long-term contract subject to FIFA regs."
The transfer saga highlights interest from other elite European clubs, including Bayern Munich, as reported by Christian Falk. While Manchester United reportedly attempted to keep the young attacker, Gabriel's decision to move to the Bernabeu signals a potential shift in perceptions regarding player development pathways at Old Trafford.
This transfer represents a significant development for Manchester United, particularly given the club's historical reputation for nurturing young talent. Gabriel's choice to move abroad at such a young age, seemingly prioritizing opportunities elsewhere, could be viewed as a worrying sign for United's future recruitment and academy player retention strategies.
