UAE records 421 new COVID-19 cases, one new death, 490 recoveries

The United Arab Emirates reported 421 new coronavirus cases and one new coronavirus-related death on Tuesday, according to the Ministry of Health quoted by the official Emirates News Agency (WAM) on Twitter.

Authorities carried out more than 63,000 tests over a 24-hour period, said WAM.

The increase is broadly in line with rises of 449 cases on Monday and 437 cases on Sunday.

The additional death brings the death toll to 315.

The new cases leave a total of 48,667, with 37,566 recoveries.

Dubai continues reopening, UAE public sector back to work

Dubai continued its process of reopening from coronavirus lockdown on Monday, announcing plans to gradually reopen mosques and places of worship starting from July 1 with a maximum of 30 percent capacity, according to an official statement.

The move comes after the emirate reopened large sectors of its economy, including malls and restaurants, with new COVID-19 regulations in place.

However, Friday prayers in mosques remain suspended until further notice.

UAE authorities also pointed out that various coronavirus regulations, including a ban on private gatherings outside of immediate family, still apply.

While Dubai has reopened most of its economy, Abu Dhabi has maintained a ban on coming in to the emirate.

All UAE public sector employees will be returning to work from July 5, according to an announcement on Monday.
