Jason Cundy is calling on Manchester United to ditch Michael Carrick and bring in Aston Villa's Unai Emery immediately.
Speaking on talkSPORT, Cundy didn't mince words about the club's current leadership, especially after a disappointing mid-week result.
"Unai Emery, go and get him, get him out of Villa," Cundy stated passionately. "That’s what I’d do. If I were Sir Jim Ratcliffe, I’d now cut my losses and go and get Unai. Don’t wait until Christmas to have the conversation, do it now.”
However, co-host Jamie O'Hara questioned if Emery would even be interested in the Old Trafford hot seat, given the current challenges. "I don’t know if Unai Emery wants to be Man United manager. Why would he want to go in there?” O'Hara mused.
Pressure is mounting on Carrick following a slow start to the season, with the early League Cup exit only adding to the tension and fan concerns about the team's direction.
While Emery has also faced inconsistency with Aston Villa this term, his overall track record is a key factor in Cundy's suggestion. Emery has impressed since joining Villa, building a competitive team and securing a Europa League title last season, his fifth overall. Jurgen Klopp has even praised Emery as a "world-class" manager.
Whether Emery would swap his Villa project for Manchester United remains to be seen, but Cundy is adamant that Sir Jim Ratcliffe should make the move without delay.
